Russians and Syrians, Allied by History and Related by Marriage

It’s stories like these that I enjoy. Very efficient— little to no political plugs, and explains what and how is going on. However, the first sentence was a bit vague as to the topic of the article. It stated who—young elite Russian wives in Syria, but the article stretches farther than them. What— mingled. Very vague social interaction. VERY. VAGUE. Where— Syria, Russia, Soviet dormitories and classrooms: specific and enlightening. You could argue the Why is Russia’s financial and military investment into Syria— but that goes for the corrupt officials… it doesn’t relate to young elite wives. Why have they mingled as such in Syria, Russia, Soviet dormitories and classrooms? It would be wise to mention a firm central thesis to this in the beginning to guide the rest of the article— which explains the why. It’s common knowledge how to mingle.
All in all, thank you Ellen Barry, for a wonderful article.
